In a Disney movie, there are always rabbits, squirrels, birds, and other little creatures happy to help clean the house. They whirl about and sing a 4-minute song and suddenly the house is spotless. Unfortunately, we live in the real world. We have to keep the house clean by ourselves and with more than a catchy song.
A clean house can feel like a dream that only a fairy godmother can grant. But with these 5 tips to help you keep the house clean, maybe you can manage without her.
Put Things Away When You’re Done with Them
If you haven’t already done this, take a day to organize. Assign every item a place that it should live. Then put everything in its place.
From there, every time that you use something, put it back when you’re done. It’s so simple, but it really does work. If you simply return things to their place, they won’t clutter up your counters.
Clean the Counters Every Day
Even if you follow the previous tip to a T, there will still be stuff on the counter at the end of the day. How does this happen? Evil gnomes, maybe?
Make a point to clean your counters every day to cut down on clutter. Put everything away that’s sitting out and give the counter a quick wipe. If you stay up on it, this will only take a couple minutes and your house will seem so much neater.
Always Do the Dishes Immediately
We get it, nobody likes doing the dishes. But a sink full of dishes is an eyesore, makes the kitchen feel untidy, and can even attract ants or other insects depending on where you live.
Make it a point to do the dishes immediately after every meal. Suddenly, it doesn’t seem like such a big job anymore.
Do a Little Laundry Every Day
It seems like there is always laundry to do. If you do one load every day (or most days) it will never turn into a gigantic chore.
Set it up on a schedule if that will help you stick to it. Towels on Monday, sheets on Tuesday, etc. Find a time during your day that will work for you. You could toss in a load right before dinner.
Once the dishes are done, the laundry should be ready to fold and put away. It will take less than 5 minutes to do that one load. Easy peasy!
Turn up the Tunes
When it’s time for a deeper cleaning session, try turning up the tunes. Squirrels and birds won’t show up to help, but the beat will put a spring in your step.
Music motivates and you’ll find that you can get that bathroom cleaned faster to the tune of your favorite song. Then you can go do something you really enjoy.
