The Best Cleaning Checklist for Every Room

If you know you need to clean, each room that you add to your list lessens the likely hood that you will even start.

A dirty bedroom is one thing. When you add a living room, bathroom, kid’s bedroom, guest bathroom, guest bedroom, crawl space, dungeon-basement, haunted closet, etc., the task seems too great to ever complete.

However, those dishes can only wait for so long, so you’ll have to do something eventually. Lists and cleaning checklists might be the only thread of hope we have in our monthly quests to find the floor.

Each room need its own cleaning checklist, and once you implement this system, you’ll find that cleaning becomes a breeze.

Checklist for Every Room

Cleaning Checklists for Every Room

Your home probably has its own quirks and special rooms, but we’re going to cover the basics rooms that you’ll definitely need to tackle at some point.

The Bedroom

Start here. If you start with the bedroom, you’ll have a freshly-made bed to fall into when you’re done with the rest of the house.

  1. Laundry

The bedroom appears ridiculously messy when it’s littered with socks and undies. Clearing your floor of garments will make your pad appear 10 times cleaner. Thankfully, this is the easiest thing to do, and it will boost your confidence.

  1. Trash and Clutter

Getting rid of trash and clutter is the second action you’re going to take to access the surfaces and floors. Grab a trash bag and a box and gather all that stuff up. Just get it out of there.

If you haven’t used something in 3 months, put it in a box, and get it out of your room.

  1. Wipe Down and Vacuum

Now that you can see your floor and surfaces, it’s time to just wipe them down and vacuum the carpet. You can be as thorough as you want because hey, it’s your room!

The Bathroom

Bathrooms follow the same rules as the bedroom, but there’s more physical exertion required.

  1. Behind the Toilet, In the Toilet

That’s right. You have to go there. You have to go the bad place.

No one wants to go back there, but we’ve all had friends who neglected their toilet for a year-long lease. Friends will come over and refuse to use the bathroom. They will have to hold it in and you’ll wonder why they’re acting strangely.

You’ll think, “Did I do something wrong?” The answer is yes. You forgot to clean behind your toilet, bud.

  1. Mirrors, Glass, Anything Shiny

Oddly enough, the shiniest things in our bathrooms are the ones that we take for granted and forget to clean. The area surrounding the faucet, the shower handle, and the mirror are often the most grotesque regions of the human home.

  1. The Vent

The ventilation system sifts through all of the stuff that floats around and would otherwise land on your toothbrush. That stuff gets stuck on the vent and is often forgotten for years.

The Kitchen

  1. Check the Cabinets and Shelves of the Fridge

For all you know there could be a colony of ants building a home in the ruins of the honey you spilled last year. The highest shelves and farthest corners should be your first stop.

  1. Dishes

Do them. How many times have you strolled into the kitchen to make some pasta only to find yourself with phone in hand, punching your credit card numbers and ordering pizza? It just comes down to starting the first dish.

  1. Over the Cabinets and Under the Fridge

I know you must being thinking that under the fridge seems so tedious and difficult, but there is a very good reason to check there. That’s where the mice are at, but we just choose to forget that fact. This might require you to get down on hands and knees.

Physical labor is never a fun option, but at least you won’t have a furry friend nibbling peanut butter off your fingers while you sleep.

The Living Room

The main issue with living rooms is that there are so many surfaces. Also, there are spaces beneath those surfaces.

  1. Wipe All of the Surfaces

Get to every surface, and at the very least dust each one. If you’re worried that you missed something, move systematically through one side of the room to the other. Once you’re done, go through again just to double down.

  1. Under the Cushions

Under-cushions have a natural love/hate relationship with all human beings. We love finding change, we hate finding the weird stuff that reflects how gross we truly are.

  1. Rearrange, or Move the Furniture

Move the furniture in your living room so you can at least vacuum the spaces underneath. Who knows what’s down there? Probably the thing that smells so weird.
